50 Ways to Be Romantic on the Cheap

Often my articles on family are about spending time with your kids, but today we’ll talk about another important aspect of families: couples. If you’ve got a significant other, I highly recommend you keep the spark of your relationship alive and find ways to show you appreciate each other, every week and every day, if possible.

  1. Weekly dates. I recommend you have a date at least once a week with your partner. It doesn’t have to be an expensive one, but at least find some way to spend a couple hours time together. If you’ve got kids, like I do, find a babysitter.
  1. Communicate. Romantic gestures don’t take the place of real communication. Take time to talk about your goals, your dreams, your plans for the future, your current lives, things you’re happy about, things you love about the other person, things you’d like to work on, things you’re grateful for.
  1. Inspiration. This list contains a lot of obvious stuff — you could probably come up with twice as many good ideas yourself. But the list doesn’t aim for originality — it aims to be an inspiration. Pick and choose some good ideas, or use it to spark some of your own. Sometimes we just need a little reminder.
  1. Forget Valentines. Boycott Valentine’s Day, as it makes people think they should be romantic on special occasions. Instead, pick one of these ideas and do it any day of the week — no need for a special occasion.
  1. Write a poem.
  1. Cook a romantic dinner.
  1. Give a full-body massage.
  1. Pack a sunset picnic.
  1. Pick wildflowers on the way home.
  1. Burn a CD with love songs.
  1. Give dark chocolates.
  1. Read poetry together.
  1. Prepare strawberries with fondue chocolate.
  1. Snuggle together on a rainy day.
  1. Leave little love notes everywhere.
  1. Send a love email every day.
  1. Take a moonlit walk on the beach.
  1. Snuggle together while watching romantic movies (Casablanca, Audrey Hepburn are my favs).
  1. Get good wine, watch shooting stars.
  1. Take a bath together (use bubbles!).
  1. Bring home good coffee or a decadent sweet.
  1. Take a walk down memory lane — visit some of the special places from your early days of dating.
  1. Make warm chocolate cake for dessert.
  1. Make a scrapbook with photos, mementos, and little notes from you lives together.
  1. Kiss in the rain.
  1. Ride a ferris wheel.
  1. Sneak away from a party and make out.
  1. Bring home great take-out, and light some candles.
  1. Fix something or fix up the house just to make your partner happy.
  1. Slow dance to romantic music.
  1. Take a nap together.
  1. Kiss slowly, touching his or her back and neck and nape — slowly.
  1. Make a list of everything you love about him or her.
  1. Write a love letter.
  1. Clip or email things that make you think of him or her, every day.
  1. Go to a movie, ignore the movie, and make out like teen-agers.
  1. Groom yourself, and try to look good for your partner.
  1. Take some quiet time and talk about your day.
  1. Write little notes, one for each way he or she drives you crazy.
  1. Feed each other grapes.
  1. Recreate your partner’s favorite romantic movie scene.
  1. Pretend you’re going on a first date — show up at the door with flowers, all dressed up, with your car washed and cleaned, looking spiffy. Recreate the first time.
  1. Create a little box with a bunch of your partner’s favorite things inside.
  1. Paint each other with flavored body paint. Be creative!
  1. Try some sexy role-playing. Get dressed up, be daring, have fun.
  1. Give a little token to your partner to wear, and say it’s to remind him or her all day that you love them.
  1. Sing a favorite song to him or her. Only do this if you can sing fairly well.
  1. Have dinner on the roof, with some candles. This doesn’t work if your roof slopes sharply.
  1. Hold hands, and walk somewhere with lots of pretty lights.
  1. Say I love you. In a different way, every day.
  1. Blindfold your partner. Use a feather. Slowly.
  1. Declare your love, very publicly.
  1. Fruit or berries and freshly made whipped cream.
  1. Play Sade. Do what comes naturally. Slowly.

Look for little, inexpensive ways to be romantic, and it will pay off for your relationship in innumerable ways.
Why inexpensive? Well, you could rent a limo and take your love to a snooty French restaurant, or whisk him or her off to a trip to the snow-capped Alps, or rent a stadium and have theThree Tenors sing love songs for you while the New York Philharmonic plays in the background. I don’t know about you, but I can’t afford to do that kind of stuff more than a few times a month. The rest of the time, I have to resort to cheaposity.
Before we get into the list, let’s look at a few notes on how to use the list:
OK, enough talk. Let’s look at some ways to be romantic without breaking your budget (note to my mom: don’t read this, as there are a couple of sexy-time things later on):

Prom Night - Talked to Your Kids About Sex Lately?
April 12, 2002 - Prom season is here and parents need to take the time to talk about sex with their teens, says the National Coalition for the Protection of Children & Families, a non-profit organization that works to educate the public of the harms of today’s sexualized culture.

"On prom night, millions of American teens decide whether or not to give it up for the first time," said Jack Samad, vice president and producer of Sex & Young America: The Real Deal, a video and guide for parents. "With the constant sexual pressures teens face today, it is so important for parents to take an active role and have an influence on that decision."

Interviews with the over 600 teens featured in Sex & Young America: The Real Deal helped the National Coalition develop the following tips for parents:

1. Find a quiet, private place to talk.
2. Be honest about feeling uncomfortable with the conversation.
3. Ask questions sparingly – avoid an interrogation.
4. Do not allow interruptions. Show your teen the conversation takes priority
5. Ask your teen how they define sex and appropriate behavior for prom night.
6. Avoid preaching. Your teen will develop their own beliefs and values through your modeling, integrity and instruction over time.
7. Make your values clear. Tell your teen how you feel about sex and relationships.
8. Be clear about your expectations and encourage them to come to you if they ever struggle to meet those expectations.
9. Tell your teen that they can use you as an excuse not to engage in certain activities.
10. Apologize if, in the past, you have not been clear about your expectations, have not exhibited integrity yourself, or have been quiet about the issue.
11. Be prepared to answer some tough questions.
12. Most importantly, be sincere in wanting to listen to learn.

To hear hundreds of teens from across the country talk openly about today’s sex-saturated society, its impact on their behavior, and what moms and dads should do, parents can purchase Sex and Young America.

Worlds tallest man- a kind gentleman at heart.

Recognized as the tallest living man in the world at present, Bao Xishun is a Mongolian herdsman of world acclaim. He is recognized as being the worlds tallest man by the Guinness Book of World Records and is 7 feet 9 inches, or 2.36m tall. The title of being the worlds tallest man has had to pass through some rough patches in the last few months.

Bao’s title of being the worlds tallest man was conceded to Leonid Stadnyk, a Ukrainian by nationality, but was returned back to him earlier this year after Stadnyk refused to be measured by the Guinness authorities according to their rules and regulations. Xishun, born in 1951, is said to have measured 236 cm in a hospital at the Chifeng city in China. Two other people, both from Asia- Ajaz Ahmed and Vikas Uppal, have claimed to be over 8 feet tall, but neither of them has been able to prove their claims according to the format laid down by the Guinness Book of World records.
Bao is supposed to have grown at a normal pace till he was 16 years old, after which he experienced this sudden surge in size and ended up with his present height of 7 feet 9 inches just seven years later, at the age of 23. Bao later served the Liberation Army for a span of three years and also played in the army basketball team. After serving the army for a span of more than three years, the worlds tallest man started complaining of rheumatism and related problems, which is attributed to his sleeping in the outdoors during his childhood, rather than being unconventionally tall.

The worlds tallest man is a celebrated man all over the world. His wedding is supposed to be a famous one for his small, rather sleepy hometown. The wedding was supposedly sponsored by a dozen companies and the guests were invited from all over the world. Bao also holds quite a number of endorsement deals with companies, and spends most of his time promoting these products all over China.

Bao’s story of becoming the worlds tallest man is a rather fascinating one. When he had retired himself out of the Liberation army, after feeling the pain associated with rheumatism, Bao took quite some time to find a new job. He was offered the job of a ‘greeter’ at a local restaurant. This is where Bao came in solemn contact with a lot of people, some of whom were associated with the media and therefore, gave him the attention he had always desired and deserved.
Bao became an instant success with the media and was very popular in his own nation. It was the local media only that is believed to have applied to the Guinness Book of World records on Bao’s behalf to nominate him for being the worlds tallest man. He was measured to be taller than the previous record holder Radhuaone Charbib by about 2mm, and thus, at the age of 40, Bao was officially entitled as being the worlds tallest man.

Bao has been known as a kind man all over the world. One of the most famous incidents that have earned Bao the reputation of being a kind hearted person is when Bao saved the lives of two Dolphins in 2006. The dolphins are believed to swallowed plastic shards by mistake, which had led to a sudden deterioration of health. When the veterinarians had failed to remove those shards from the dolphins’ stomachs, Bao was called upon to help remove them. The worlds tallest man, with his 1.06m long arm helped in removing those plastic shards right from within the stomachs of the dolphins.

Everything that Bao has done in his life has been a much discussed affair, especially after he got listed in the Guinness Book of World records as the worlds tallest man. His marriage to a saleswoman belonging to the town of Chifeng-which also happens to be Bao’s own hometown-was largely discussed in the local media, especially owing to the fact that his wife was literally half his age and size.

There have been a lot of apprehensions about Bao and his life, but one thing has clearly stood up- that Bao is a true gentleman, who loves to enjoy the status of being the worlds tallest man.
